Final Drive Cover Plate Removal Tips
One question that we get quite a bit here involves how to remove the cover plate from a KYB (Kayaba) final drive. In our shop, it’s not that hard to do – but in the field, it can be a nightmare. It is one of the most difficult cover plates to remove – especially if you have never done it before.
In this video Travis fully demonstrates exactly how to remove a KYB cover plate in the field using standard tools you likely have on hand. Also note that this cover plate can get rusted so tightly onto the motor housing you may need to let it soak in some penetrating oil before you attempt to remove it.
Again, this is not how we remove here in our shop, but how it can be removed without specialized tools.
